Asynchronous, Option-Based Multi-Agent Policy Gradient: A Conditional Reasoning Approach
Lyu, Xubo, Banitalebi-Dehkordi, Amin, Chen, Mo, Zhang, Yong
Cooperative multi-agent problems often require coordination between agents, which can be achieved through a centralized policy that considers the global state. Multi-agent policy gradient (MAPG) methods are commonly used to learn such policies, but they are often limited to problems with low-level action spaces. In complex problems with large state and action spaces, it is advantageous to extend MAPG methods to use higher-level actions, also known as options, to improve the policy search efficiency. However, multi-robot option executions are often asynchronous, that is, agents may select and complete their options at different time steps. This makes it difficult for MAPG methods to derive a centralized policy and evaluate its gradient, as centralized policy always select new options at the same time. In this work, we propose a novel, conditional reasoning approach to address this problem and demonstrate its effectiveness on representative option-based multi-agent cooperative tasks through empirical validation. The IRS is allowing taxpayers to opt out of facial recognition to verify accounts
The Internal Revenue Service says it's giving taxpayers with individual accounts a new option to verify their identity: a live virtual interview with tax agents. This comes after the IRS backed away from a planned program to require account holders to verify their ID by submitting a selfie to a private company, a proposal that drew criticism from both parties in Congress and from privacy advocates. The agency says account holders can still choose the selfie option, administered by ID.Me. But if they'd rather not, the agency says, taxpayers will have the option of verifying their identity "during a live, virtual interview with agents; no biometric data – including facial recognition – will be required if taxpayers choose to authenticate their identity through a virtual interview." The IRS announced the new option on Monday. It says that ID.Me will destroy any selfie already submitted to the company, and that those selfies now on file will also be permanently deleted "over the course of the next few weeks."

Amazon's Echo Frames will soon come with blue-light filtering lenses
Amazon's Echo Frames are compatible with most prescription lenses, but they only come with clear lenses out of the box -- until now, anyway. The retail giant has introduced three new options to choose from if you're looking to buy a pair of the Alexa-powered eyewear. You can get it with polarized blue mirror sunglass lenses starting today, and starting on June 9th, you can get a pair with blue-light-filtering lenses and polarized classic sunglass lenses. The Echo Frames have open-ear audio near your temples, so you can listen to music, audiobooks and podcasts, as well as take calls without blocking the world around you. Since it also gives you hands-free access to Alexa, you can simply issue voice commands to control it, such as "Alexa, play my followed podcasts on Amazon Music" or "Alexa, resume my audiobook."

Learning Reusable Options for Multi-Task Reinforcement Learning
Garcia, Francisco M., Nota, Chris, Thomas, Philip S.
One of the main reasons why RL has worked so well in these applications is that we are able simulate millions of interactions with the environment in a relatively short period of time, allowing the agent to experience a large number of different situations in the environment and learn the consequences of its actions. In many real world applications, however, where the agent interacts with the physical world, it might not be easy to generate such a large number of interactions. The time and cost associated with training such systems could render RL an unfeasible approach for training in large scale. As a concrete example, consider training a large number of humanoid robots (agents) to move quickly, as in the Robocup competition [ Farchy et al., 2013 ] . Although the agents have similar dynamics, subtle variations mean that a single policy shared across all agents would not be an effective solution.

Google Nest Mini offers better intelligence, louder sound and whole home audio
Google designers show their latest devices during a visit to its hardware studio where they designed the company's new Pixel 4 flagship phone, Pixel Go laptop, Pixel Buds wireless headphones, Nest Mini smart speaker and Nest Wifi system. Though the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL smartphones may be the stars of the Made by Google media event in New York City, a new and impressive smart speaker garnered quite a bit of chatter, too. Nest Mini ($49), which is about the size of a doughnut, has some improved hardware and software to go up against its primary competitor, Amazon Echo Dot. This diminutive smart speaker offers twice the bass as the original Google Home Mini, the company says. Indeed, the audio sounded fuller and louder than its predecessor when we cranked it up in a post-event demo session.

Google Assistant will soon be able to buy stuff for you on command
Google Assistant already helps us organize our shopping lists and find out about things we're interested in, but it stops short at actually letting us buy items. With a new feature rolling out to Pixel phones, it looks like that's about to change. A new option for setting up payment methods has appeared in the Assistant settings for Pixel users, bringing the anticipated feature one step closer to reality. First discovered deep in the beta version of the Google App back in January, it seems as though Google is ready to pull the trigger on voice-powered payments, a major step in Google Assistant's fight against Alexa and Siri. Head into the Settings menu of the Google Assistant screen on your Pixel phone and you'll see the new option for Payments under the Google Account section.
